![]() Just like minimalist fashion, monochrome fashion saves you on time and mind space, because you are able to put together looks in an instant with very little thought. In this guide we’ll show you how this technique can be incorporated into your minimalist style. Different textures and patterns can be added to make a bolder statement while still remaining polished. You can wear pieces in the exact same shade or play around with different hues. Monochromatic dressing is wearing one color from head to toe. One of the easiest ways to make a statement? By wearing a single color. I mean, there's a reason why overalls are hard to pull off for most men in a stylish way we're used to seeing tops/bottoms having clear lines of demarcation and outfits that erase those separations often don't "read" as being very flattering.5.3 Dressed to Impress in Monochrome What is Monochromatic Fashion? In other ensembles, as some others have noted, for one, a monochromatic approach may end up creating an unintentional "jump suit" look if the similarity in shades makes it hard to visually separate different articles of clothing (and by extension, your body). As I said, it completely depends on the outfit. If you're wearing roomy black jeans and a loose black t-shirt, you might look like a roadie. If you're wearing well-fitting black pants and a snug black top, that can look sleek. I mean, the "black shirt/black jeans" look is about as classic as you can get for casual "going out" wear depending on what you're actually pairing. You should not take seriously any suggestion that monochromatic outfits are inherently "bad." That's utter nonsense. It really really really depends on the outfit. If you want examples of what an all black wardrobe and outfits look like, there are many in the "Gothninja RPG" threads you can find here (historical). Some are wearing and owning entirely in on black. What I was trying (inadequately) to point to last night was that this look of all black is more common in "artisanal"-type genres of outfits. For some reason this doesn't matter in visual weight for mixing blacks and mixing materials. And not exactly matching shades often looks like an outfit that tried and failed to coordinate. If you wear all black cotton but kinda casual-trad stuff (slacks and collared shirt), you risk the "Waiter" look. It can be kind cool but it's hard to "pull off", because it's kinda camp. If you wear all denim (most often blue), you risk the goofy "Canadian Tuxedo" look. ![]() There are exceptions but it's far more difficult to get right, and I don't think there are simple rules to guide ppl to the exceptions. Mixed shades of black seem to usually match well, but mixed shades of another color often don't seem to (and do better as coordinated rather than same colors). If doing one color, neutrals tend to be okay. On mobile right now, but I hope I'll have better thoughts this morning.įirst there's the color matching itself. Why is wearing a black shirt and black jeans or a blue shirt with blue jeans considered unfashionable?Īpologies again for fucking this up last night, I was not coherent enough when tired to read this right. I thought that matching clothing looked more ideal and fashionable because you can fit a specific color scheme and stand out from the rest of the crowd. I do not like having contrast in my outfit, but apparently people on this subreddit seem to disagree and have said that it's necessary, which I quite don't understand. I try to match my outfits as closely as possible to one color. Basically, certain shirts that don't have that color available for pants or other apparel will fit into light/dark theme for the rest of my outfit. Or if I have a navy shirt, I will pair that with black jeans ( dark theme). For pants, I primarily wear jeans of assorted colors (blue, black, white, etc.) Clothing that I am not able to match (usually shirts) will be paired with apparel that fits the theme.įor example, if I have a turquoise shirt, then I will pair that with white jeans ( light theme). I have a vast amount of clothing and apparel.
